Hi Mac-geniuses ;)
I'm in need of some help.
I've been using a PC for over 10 years now, and I will continue to do so for the rest of my life, but The Time has finally come for me to test a Mac.
I've already tested a MBA in the Apple store, and after 2 minutes I already felt like I've found my home.
I can't hold it any longer, I want to own a MacBook and use its sleek OS which is way better than Windows (I admit that).
As a university student (master in computer science), my idea would be to buy a MBA with 8 gigs of RAM and a 128gb SSD.
Now, as you can already guess, this machine would be for:
programming (Java, .NET, C# and Objective-C)
writing
browsing
mailing
For all of these tasks, a MBA would be perfect imo, and I would've bought one already if not for this one reason: Mac OS X can't run Visual Studio without running windows.
I don't like the idea to either have to:
A: run windows on parallels. This would take up so many precious SSD space.
B: install windows with Bootcamp. But this also would take up alot of unnecessary disk space as I need to install the whole Windows OS for just one program.
Can you guys help this Mac-newbie out / convince me of buying a MBA?
Visual Studio For Mac Os
Are there any alternatives?
Help would be much appreciated!
Edit:Will probably go with a 2013 MBA - 8GB - 128GB SSD and an external HDD USB 3.0 to install a VM of Windows on in Parallels.
Will this VM run smooth and fast enough to comfortably use Visual Studio?
Anyone who can relate?
13-01-2014 Edit:I'm starting to think that the MBA with the haswell CPU (1.3 GHz with up to 2.6 GHz boost) will not be sufficient for programming.
Will it be?
When should I consider going with a MBP (2.6 GHz)?
