Apple developed the MOV file format to store digital video that was especially encoded to stream through the company’s proprietary media player, QuickTime. As a digital video, MOV files can be shared among users and opened in compatible media player applications. But unlike digital videos that are compressed with the MPEG-2 standard, MOV files are not usually published onto DVD in their native format. However, there are a few DVD authoring applications that can write MOV files onto disc. A component in the iLife software suite, iDVD is one example of a Mac application that supports this task. Meanwhile, DVDVideoSoft Free Studio and DVD Flick are both Windows-compatible freeware capable of burning MOV files onto DVD.
iDVD
1.Insert a blank DVD-R into your computer's DVD-ROM drive.
2.Launch iDVD. Go to the “File” tab on the program menu and select “OneStep DVD from Movie…”
3.Browse for the MOV file in the file selection window. Select the item and click “Import” to load the media into the program. An encoding window will open and the program will automatically format the video onto the DVD. IDVD will display a confirmation message when the disc is successfully written.
DVDVideoSoft Free Studio
1.Insert a blank DVD-R into your computer's DVD-ROM drive.
2.Launch DVDVideoSoft Free Studio. Click the “DVD & Video” icon on the program welcome screen. Select the “Free Video to DVD” option. A file conversion window will open.
3.Click the “Add Files…” button and browse for the MOV file in the file selection window. Select the item and click “Open” to load the media into the program.
4.Click “Create DVD.” A dialog box will open. Select “Start DVD Burner and begin a recording process” and click “Continue.” The “Free DVD Video Burner” will automatically launch and format the video onto the DVD. DVDVideoSoft Free Studio will display a confirmation message when the disc is successfully written.
DVD Flick
1.Insert a blank DVD-R into your computer's DVD-ROM drive.
2.Launch DVD Flick. Click “Add title…” link and browse for the MOV file in the file selection window. Select the item and click “Open” to load the media into the program.
3.Click the “Project Settings” icon; a programming window will open. Select the “Burning” tab and choose the “Burn Project to Disc” option. Click “Accept.”
4.Click the “Create DVD” icon. An encoding window will open and the program will format the video onto the DVD. DVD Flick will display a confirmation message when the disc is successfully written.
